The South Main Gateway Project will transform a historically significant but long-vacant property into a prominent gateway to Fort Worth’s Near Southside. The site’s history dates to the 1870s, though its original property plat was lost in the 1875 courthouse fire. The existing building was constructed in 1940 as a Safeway grocery store and has remained largely vacant for approximately 20 years, with its most recent use as a temporary workforce building.
After 15 years of planning and evolution, the project now reflects a vision endorsed by the late owner Tom Reynolds: a vibrant beer garden and urban marker that announces arrival into the Near Southside, drawing inspiration from the iconic character of Austin’s South Congress district. Located at a major vehicular and pedestrian entrance near the TRE station, the project has the potential to become a defining landmark and gateway for the district.
Springhill Suites
A new SpringHill Suites by Marriott is coming to the Near Southside in Fall 2027! Owned and operated by Raymond Management Company, this hotel, under construction now at the northeast corner of S. Main and Vickery, will feature 156 guests suites along with 8 specialty suites, offering guests quality lodging and hospitality, along with an on-site bar and outdoor patio.
