Unity is among the most successful game engines for multi-platform games. Since its initial release in 2005, several AAA games have been built on this platform. The good news is that Unity supports literally every gaming platform, including mobile, desktop, gaming consoles, and virtual reality.
5 Successful games powered with Unity
RimWorld
It is a construction and management simulation video game by Ludeon Studios. Ludeon Studios partners with Double Eleven to handle the development and publishing of this game. RimWorld was available for early access for Windows, macOS, and Linux gamers in November 2013. It was officially released to everyone else on these platforms in October 2018.
The PS4 and Xbox One version of the game was released on 29th July 2022. We hope for an update for the next-gen consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S) to be released soon. When it comes to playing, the goal of this game is to ensure the survival of a colony of people by fighting against various environmental and/or internal events through randomly generated events in a customizable world.
Kerbal Space Program
It is a popular space simulation game built by Squad – a renowned Mexican game developer. The game is currently available on almost every gaming platform, including Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A version for the next-gen gaming consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S) was released on 24th September 2021.
When playing this game, players are required to implement a space program on a spaceport built by Kerbals. While in this space center, players have access to components that they can use to create rockets, aircraft, spaceplanes, rovers, and several other space crafts. After building the space crafts, players can launch them into space. The challenge they have to deal with is ensuring the Spacecrafts have enough fuel and sufficient thrust required to propel them to wherever they want to reach.
Slime Rancher 2
Slime Rancher 2 is a popular, newly released first-person life simulation adventure game created by Monomi Park – an American-based indie game studio. Early access to this game is available only for Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S gamers. The final version of the game will be released at a later date, which is yet to be revealed by the developer.
In this game, players are required to control a rancher that moved from earth to a new planet in order to live as a slime rancher. Players need to feed slimes to enable them to produce plorts that can be sold to get money, referred to as “newbucks” in this game. Newbucks can be used to purchase a new ranch and equipment.
Valheim
Valheim is one of the newest survival games built by Swedish developer Iron Gate Studio – one of the popular studios in the game. The game is currently available for early access for Windows and Linux gamers. However, it will be available for Xbox series X/S gamers in the second quarter of 2023.
This game is played from a third-person perspective, and it requires players to create tools, build shelters and fight enemies in order to survive. Each player in the game has a health bar that depletes based on the number of enemy attacks they lose and whenever they fall. In addition to the health bar, players also have a stamina bar that gradually reduces depending on how much energy they use when they run or attack an enemy.
Players need to eat food to gain more stamina and health (fill up the stamina or health bar again). This creates a real-life perspective in the game, making it even more enjoyable.
Hollow Knight
Hollow night is a popular Metroidvania game built and published by Independent Developer. In its early days, the development of this game was partly funded by a Kickstarter Crowdfunding campaign where they raised over $57,000. The initial release of the game was in 2017, and it was available on Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux. The Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One versions of this game were released in 2018.
The game takes place in a fictional Kingdom called Hallownest. Players are required to control an insect-like, silent, nameless knight while exploring the underground world. The role of Knight is to build a nail, a specific type of sword used in combat and environmental interaction.
